We continue to come across Old Ballard Street Signs that I haven't photographed yet. In every case, we've walked these streets, sometimes repeatedly, without having seen them before. How did we miss them? Why do we see them now? Not only that, but last night we saw one pair of these, and when I went back this afternoon, I found another pair that we had walked right by.

Note the pair on 22nd Ave. (one of which is shown above) are a few tiles wider than the pair on 23rd Ave.

Thanks, Bob. They're a fun thing to discover about my new neighborhood. At this point, I know where more of them are than the Ballard Historical Society. Hah!

See, that's what I love about the Northwest and Seattle specifically: Ballard has its own historical society. (In New York that would be like one apartment building having its own historical society.)

Hah! Well, the "historical society", truth be told and as far as I can tell, is a realtor who works in the local Windemere office. But there is a book (http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=9780738548173&Store_Code=arcadia&search=ballard&offset=0&filter_cat=&PowerSearch_Begin_Only=&sort=name.asc&range_low=&range_high=) about early Ballard.

Just from reading the book blurb I know 100 percent more about Ballard than I did ten minutes ago—“Shingle Capital of the World,” indeed.

One of my best friends in college (and a high school classmate, although we weren't friends then) was named Brig. Odd how the ones on 23rd and 67th does not have a crossbar on the G, but some strange dot hanging out there away from the rest of the letter.

I'm starting to think the ones on 23rd Ave. are newer than the ones on 22nd. But maybe not. I don't know, really. But they do have different lettering styles and they are shorter.
