A query, oh Hive Mind

What does "distraction culture" mean to you? Just off the top of your head, no googling.

Individual definition, you understand, but: the constant bombardment of external Shiny, 24/7, birth to death; also the prioritizing of unimportant, ie celebrity, news over more substantial and important information.

Signed, Getting cranky just thinking about it.

It makes me think of the whole "MTV generation" thing, how the internet is supposedly making us less able to focus on things (& how I think in my case that might be somewhat true). Overload of information, & some of that is news but some of that is just "oooh, shiny, I found a video of a bulldog riding a skateboard on the internet!"

I've never heard the phrase before so I may be totally off-track.

That we are now an "Ooh, a squirrel!" culture. We have the attention spans of young ferrets. If you need more words than you can put in a tweet to make your point, you're going on too long for most people.

It's very sad, actually.
