Ouch about having to cut the rings off. I had to have mine made smaller after I'd been working in the closed file room of a law firm downtown. Slinging boxes of old legal files all around and about will do that to you.
Congrats. And what an interesting idea, taking a picture of the hands every year. Hopefully you will have the chance to keeping taking these pictures until those hands develop some more interesting textures, like those old weathered boards and driftwood you sometimes photograph. I wouldn't do this though since I would have to stop biting my nails for weeks beforehand.

Mind you, we *had* to. Both of our old ones had, on different occasions, had to be cut off because of swelling (varying causes).
