heh. DID go to a bookshop, as it happens, yesterday - and saw a woman carrying a double armful of books, so I said to her what a joy it was to see someone doing that. She first said that she did it all the time and that everyone kept getting books as presents from her all the time, and then kind of asked why I had put it quite like that and I said because it gladdens a writer's heart to see people reading.
So she asked what my name was, and I told her, and we said merry christmas and goodbye and all that.
Five or ten minutes after that I was browsing a stack of books in another part of the bookstore entirely and there she comes, waving a copy of my own book at me and asking if I'd mind signing it for her [grin]...
