Dungeness Coastline

Looking away from the spit.

Rocks, Grass, Driftwood

Driftwood

Stacked Rocks

Was Andy Goldsworthy here? They couldn't have been stacked like this for very long, it was so windy and the tide was coming in.

Immature Moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita)

Bumper Stickers

There was a Gun and Knife show in Pt. Angeles on the day we landed there, which practically filled the town. This van was parked two cars over from us. I worked up my nerve to take a picture. It's not enough that this anti-socialist person drove on socialized roads to get to the gun and knife show. No, this anti-immigration person had to stay at a motel owned and operated by a Chinese family.

Thanks! It was tiny, only a couple centimeters across. I kept wanting to move the stick it was bumping against, but never did for some reason. Maybe at its scale moving the stick would have created a vortex that collapsed it.

In any case, the tide was coming in, so I bet in a short while there was enough water for it to move around freely.

curious . . . I usually identify pictures of the West Coast at a glance, but this Dungeness is not intuitively obvious to me. Possible, or likely, sure, but not OBVIOUSLY.

You could say the Dungeness Spit is actually at the northwest coast. It's a small spit of land that sticks out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca between the Olympic Peninsual and Victoria Island.

Thank you! Beaches are lessons in zen and the beauty of circumstance and accident.

Five out of six are really terrific! Yes, strewn beaches -- the perfection of sheer happenstance. Ooh! Ooh! Good title! The Perfection of Sheer Happenstance. Dibs!

Can't you guess? It's a perfectly fine photo, as such; I just don't like the subject matter.

I can guess -- probably the one I stared at in fascinated/repulsed horror, and then had to work up my nerve to photograph.

I spent so long looking at these and trying to decide on a favourite, that I forgot to comment. I still don't know which is my favourite. abrinsky was particularly taken with the first; I'm torn between the stacked rocks and the jellyfish.
