The Seattle Public Schools' Native American program has all but disappeared, mystifying parents, students, and alumni. Theresa Barnes says school administrators have destroyed the cultural curriculum that brought urban Indians like her to class.
Theresa Barnes, a 17-year-old senior, says a teacher told her and other students Sept. 9 that Indian Heritage was no longer a native-based school. The native culture class, she says, "was something that made everybody closer."
