Orbitz just told me there's flight from Seattle to Midway (Chicago) -- via O'Hare (Chicago) and Cleveland, and overnight. Hah! Um, no, but thanks.

(It's also told me there's a flight from Seattle to Midway via Denver that's cheaper.)

try southwest airlines.
I'm going to go PDX to MDW (RT) for $217. I've got a stop both ways, but it's not crucial to me. I can always sit 60-90 minutes at the airport and read or knit. or even take pictures.

It's a one way to midway, there was one with a stopover in Denver that was cheaper than the one I mention above.

I was just amused that Orbitz came up with a flight Seattle -- O'Hare -- Cleveland -- Midway. Sheesh! And with an OVERNIGHT layover, too.

I don't mind waiting in airports, but I find the security lines and stuff kind of annoying. Oh well.

it's beyond me how they price these things.
I tried to combine a southwest (RT $217) and an american (RT $320) flight because I liked the timing better and it came up with something like $500+ for the one-way out on american.
some of the other options expedia came up with were totally ridiculous, like the route you mention, but additionally in the outrageous price range, like $600 round trip for the privilege of making several stops and layovers and arriving the wee hours of the morning (which I am going to be doing).
