One of the most spectacular rides I ever got hitchhiking was up through Shasta Park, sitting on the bed of a pickup truck. It was just at dusk, and for a few freaking minutes, it looked like the entire forest was bursting into flame. Until It became clear that the fog was forming just at the treetops, in scattered simultaneous patches. Stunning.
