Today I asked Julie if she would like to avail ourselves of the legal, social, and economic special privileges accorded by state monopoly to the allegedly monogamous breeding pair. And she said yes!  Whoo hoo!

H and I will only cross that road if Texas decides my insurance benefits are eroding the fine institution of marriage and make just living in sin illegal.

But hurrah for you and Julie. Suck those legal, social and economic special privileges dry!

Actually, when WA state passed a Defense of Marriage Act or something in the 90s, I felt like getting a divorce (I was married to [livejournal.com profile] janeehawkins at the time) very publicly, because we didn't plan on having children.

Part of the reason for the elaborateness of phraseology is because the people who are Defending Marriage don't realized that's what they're really limiting it to. Hah!
